Painting Your Ceiling (Part Two)

Painting a ceiling is much easier if you use an extension pole for your roller for several reasons. Firstly, it prevents you having to constantly climb down the stepladder in order to refill the roller and saves considerable time as a result. Secondly, you will be able to cover a much larger area by standing on the floor than having to work in cramped conditions at the top of a ladder, where you don’t have much freedom to move easily or to stretch to reach the next section of the ceiling. Finally, using a traditional roller on a ladder can cause discomfort in your neck and shoulders and also gives you a much better view of your work so you can ensure complete coverage.

When using an extension pole, keep your arms close to your body and your shoulders low in order to roll the ceiling at the correct angle for a consistent, smooth finish. Using a double arm roller frame for your roller means you can achieve even pressure on the ceiling while you paint, unlike a conventional frame which often leaves an unintentional striped effect. Also, a large roller will enable you to cover the ceiling more quickly, thereby reducing the time spent painting.
