Purchasing curtains is a hard/important decision to make. Ask decorators, a curtain can make or break your room. Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t worry, here’s some helpful advice on making the right choice.
Length
Decide on how high above the window you’d like your curtains to hand from. The usual choice is six inches above the window, but if you’d like a dramatic effect, you can go even higher.
When measuring the width of your window, add four to eight inches on both sides. Why? So you don’t block the window as much when the curtains are open.
Fabric
You need to think carefully about fabric, because if they’re too heavy – they may not fold nicely when drawn, or if they’re too light, they won’t fall well. Hold fabric samples up to a window to see how it looks pleated.Linen, silk and velvet are good choices as they tend to hang the best.
Custom vs Off-the-shelf
The obvious benefits of custom treatments are that you can customize the dimensions however you like, but they are obviously more costly. If you’re on a budget, spend on high-quality off-the-shelf curtains. Brilliant quality at a cheaper price than the custom option.
